Fjord Resort — Sølvhamn, Norway
Fjord Resort is a single building holding four things at once — a licensed floor, four kitchens, a suite wing hung over the fjord, and a hall that was landing herring when the pier was cut in 1911. Not a casino with rooms above it. One composition, read from the water up.
The long view
The pier at Sølvhamn was cut in 1911 for one purpose: to get silver darlings off boats and into barrels before the weather turned. The hall behind it was built the same summer, in stone, with a roof span wide enough to work a full catch under cover. For forty years that is exactly what it did.
What followed was the usual coastal drift. A customs office. A cold store. A dance hall for two brief seasons after the war, then a boat shed, then nothing at all for most of the seventies. The roof held because it had been built by people who expected weather, which is the only reason any of this exists now.
The hall reopened as a gaming room in 1996, with nine tables and the iron windows left exactly where they were. That room is still standing and still dealing — it is the herring hall, and everything else on the site was built outward from it between 2013 and 2022: the north gallery, the two kitchen towers, and the suite wing that now hangs thirty metres over the water.
The rule through all of it was the one the pier was built on. Make it for the people actually standing in it, in materials that improve with salt and rain. Nothing here is finished in anything that needs protecting from the sea.
The floor
The floor is deliberately broken into connected rooms, so the noise of the terraces never reaches the salons and the herring hall keeps the quiet it has always had. Limits are posted at every pit, in kroner, before you sit down.
Single-zero wheels throughout, dealt on wool layouts woven in Tromsø. The two window tables keep the lowest minimums in the house; the high-limit wheel sits in its own alcove off the north gallery.
Six-deck shoes with surrender on four of the eleven tables, plus a hand-dealt double-deck table that opens at eight each evening for Nordlys members and their guests.
Commission-free punto banco in the old herring hall, dealt beneath the original 1911 roof trusses. Squeeze play is welcome at the two rear tables.
Nine felts running hold'em and pot-limit Omaha from mid-afternoon, with a deep-stack tournament on the first Thursday of every month and satellites the weekend before.
A single craps table, kept single on purpose so that a hot shooter draws the whole room rather than splitting it. Sic bo runs alongside on weekend evenings.
Three sound-isolated salons with their own dealing teams, a sommelier call, and a service lift that reaches the suite wing without crossing the public floor.
Electronic gaming
The terraces run the length of the west wing in shallow arcs rather than straight ranks — a small thing that changes how the room feels after the second hour. Cabinets are serviced weekly and audited on the schedule our licence sets.
The Skerry Club
There is no card to swipe and no balance to watch tick over. Membership is decided on play history and invitation, and each tier opens a part of the building the public floor never sees.
Priority seating at any open table, complimentary valet through the winter months, and use of the members' room on the mezzanine with its own view down the water.
A named host, reduced minimums in the private salons, standing tables held at Saltbrygga and Bresteg, and late checkout as a default rather than a favour.
The run of the roof lounge, a seaplane transfer allowance from Bergen, and first refusal on the herring hall for private evenings.
Table & cellar
Four restaurants share a single kitchen of sixty-one and a cellar of just under 22,000 bottles — but each room keeps its own hours, its own identity and its own reservation line.

Contemporary Nordic · tasting menu only
Twenty-four covers a night around an open hearth, with a menu that follows the boats rather than a printed calendar. Everything on the plate is landed, foraged or cellared within the county.

Grill & raw bar
Built along the old salt wharf, with a dry-ageing room glazed into the dining floor and a raw counter fed by the resort's own oyster lines out in the shallows.

All-day kitchen
The room that never shuts. It serves the gaming floor directly through a side pass, so a hand in progress never costs anyone a meal, and it does breakfast for the suite wing at the same time.

Roof bar & small plates
Six floors up on the suite wing, facing straight down the fjord. This is where the evening tends to finish — low light, long windows, and a bar built around aquavit and bitters distilled in the cellar.
Stay
The wing cantilevers off the northern face, which means the entry-level room gets the same fjord as the residence at the end of the corridor. Nothing here looks at a car park.

Full-height glazing onto the water, a deep tub set to catch the low northern light, and a dedicated lift to the gaming floor two levels down.
74 sqm
Two rooms and a private sauna cut into the rock face behind the wing, with a concierge line that books salons and dining the same evening you ask.
195 sqm
The whole northern corner above the original herring hall: private dining room, butler on call, and a discreet stair straight down into the salons.

The herring hall
Rather than chase arena bookings the resort kept the original hall at 320 and treated it acoustically instead — a room for acts that reward being near them.
Thursdays, 21:00
A resident quartet and a rotating guest chair, running through to somewhere past one. The room empties directly back onto the floor, which is the point.
First Saturday, monthly
A visiting ensemble plays a single unbroken 70-minute programme, followed by a reception under the old trusses with the bar open late.
Quarterly
A deep-stack final table staged in the hall itself, drawing the strongest field on the northern circuit and filmed for broadcast.
Beyond the hall the calendar spreads through the building: a late set at Nordlys Tak most weekends, an informal piano residency on quiet weeknights, and terrace evenings through the short northern summer. Skerry Club members get a booking window ten days ahead of public release.

The company was formed in 1996 by a group of five regional hoteliers to buy the derelict herring hall at Sølvhamn and put a licensed gaming room inside it. That single room ran on its own for seventeen years before anything else was built.
Everything since — the north gallery, the kitchen towers, the suite wing, the roof bar — went up in phases between 2013 and 2022, funded property by property rather than in one raise. The company has never taken on a second site and has no plans to.
Finance and compliance report to a board that includes two independent non-executive directors with no operational role on the gaming floor. The floor, the cash desk and our responsible gambling procedures are audited on the cycle our licence requires, and the reports go to the board in full.
The resort employs around 640 people directly, including a two-year dealer programme that trains and certifies everyone who deals on our tables. We do not use agency dealers on the main floor.
One property, one company. We do not license the name, run a loyalty network across other resorts, or sell our floor design to anyone. There is one Fjord Resort.

We keep administrative, technical and physical safeguards proportionate to the sensitivity of what we hold: encrypted storage of payment data, restricted staff access to identity records, and regular review of our reservations and website systems.

Access to the gaming floor is limited to guests aged 18 or over who present valid government-issued photo identification at the entrance. We reserve the right to refuse entry to the floor, or to any part of the resort, to anyone who cannot satisfactorily establish their age or identity.
Suite, dining and hall reservations made through this website or the reservations desk are subject to availability at the moment of confirmation. Most categories require a valid payment card to hold. Cancellation and no-show terms vary by category and season and are disclosed to you at the time of booking.
All play is subject to the house rules posted at each table and machine and to the rules and limits set by our regulator. We may bar anyone from the floor for conduct that disrupts other guests, breaches house rules, or gives reasonable grounds to suspect cheating or collusion.
This site exists to inform prospective guests and to help them reach us. You agree not to submit false information through it, not to attempt unauthorised access to any of our systems, and not to reproduce substantial parts of its content without written permission.

An evening at the tables should be one part of a full evening, never the whole of it. These are the tools and the support available to every guest.

Every dealer, host and floor manager completes responsible gambling training as part of our two-year in-house programme. Floor staff are trained to recognise distress or loss of control at a table and are authorised to bring in our responsible gambling officer quietly, without the guest having to ask first.
Gambling becomes harmful when it starts to reach a person's money, relationships, work or health. The common signals are spending more time or money than intended, going back specifically to win losses back, borrowing to fund play, hiding what has been lost, and feeling anxious or preoccupied between visits. If any of that is familiar, for yourself or for someone close to you, speak to our responsible gambling officer — on the floor every evening we are open.
Free confidential help is available in Norway through Hjelpelinjen, the national gambling helpline, on 800 800 40, and at hjelpelinjen.no. Visitors from elsewhere can reach Gamblers Anonymous, which holds meetings in most countries, or the equivalent national service where they live. Helpline numbers change — if one does not connect, search for the current national gambling helpline in your country.
Gambling by anyone under 18 is prohibited here. Photo identification is checked at the entrance to the floor and staff will challenge anyone whose age is in doubt, however busy the room is.
